Caldwell/Nampa Chambers of Commerce Agri-Business Committee
To advance rural America’s success through building strong working relationships between agricultural producers, agribusiness people and members of the local business community.
WHAT WE DO
Canyon County Farm Family of the Year
Each year we select and honor an outstanding Canyon County farm family. The Farm Family is announced in the spring. The family’s biography, photos and a video are featured during the Canyon County Fair in the O’Conner Field House. The Caldwell business community sponsors a luncheon to honor the family of the year. The speech and video presentation at the luncheon have received standing ovations from chamber members.
Continuing education scholarships are available for Canyon County Youth who plan to major or minor in Agriculture.
Freshmen are eligible for a $500 scholarship with sophomores and up eligible for a $1,000 scholarship.
Applications are due April 15th.
Educational Crop Signage
The Caldwell/Nampa Agri-Business Committee members place crop signs on most major thoroughfares in Canyon County. Our goal is to educate the public on the various types of crops that are grown in the Treasure Valley.
The committee has sponsored and conducted several legislative tours, the first in 2001 with other tours in 2004, 2007 and 2013. In addition local media and elected officials tours have also been conducted in 2008 and 2009 and 2017, with one planned for September 2019. These tours focus on critical issues such as water supply/usage, economic impacts of agriculture, and quality of life. The committee provides a variety of information geared toward educating elected officials and others. Our goal is to assist them in making informed decisions about agriculture.
Each year the committee develops a position statement on agricultural issues. Past issues have included: land use, weed control, water, and environmental concerns. The position statement is reviewed and approved by the chamber boards and then presented to the legislature.
